  • Toy Story BluRay and free movie ticket

Posted on June 25th, 2010 Graham No comments

Disney has been pretty good with this sort of thing. They have a deal that if you buy either of the first two Toy Story movies, you will get a free movie ticket to see Toy Story 3. I’d love to see it, and I am seriously contemplating buying the BluRay discs just to get the movie passes. If I was going to buy the BRs anyway, I might as well get a free movie!

  • Things to do with the kids this summer

Posted on June 24th, 2010 Graham No comments

Since I live in Ontario, there are a couple of great offers out there right now for what you can do with your kids this summer. Tim Hortons has some free swimming available, but unfortunately, my city isn’ t on their list. An even better one is the Kids Bowl Free program. This is where kids can bowl two games every day for free, and a family pass is only around $25 for the summer. Awesome price! Unfortunately, just like the swimming, this one isn’t available at any of the local bowling alleys either :-(

  • Lab report and cat scan :-)

My grandmother sent this along to me…

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird’s chest.

After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, “I’m sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away.”

The distressed woman wailed, “Are you sure?”

“Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead,” replied the vet..

“How can you be so sure?” she protested. “I mean you haven’t done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something.”

The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck’s owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.

The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.

The vet looked at the woman and said, “I’m sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck.”

The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman. The duck’s owner, still in shock, took the bill. “$150!” she cried, “$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!”

The vet shrugged, “I’m sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it’s now $150.”

  • Licensed “energy drinks” at Bulk Barn

Every Friday night we get “Friday Night Treats”. The kids look forward to it every week. We usually end up going to the Bulk Barn. The other day we were there, and I noticed the following drinks in the cooler:

In case you can’t tell, there is Flaming Moe’s (from the Simpsons), Power Up (with Super Mario), and Romulan Ale (from Star Trek). My first thought was, “Wow, how can those be legit?” I looked on the cans, and they all have copyright or trademark information on them

I checked out the Boston America web site, and they have lots of different energy drinks that have licensed characters on the can. I guess they are legit. The only thing that kind of bothers me is that some of the cans would appeal to kids.

  • Andre Agassi making the rounds

In the last week, I’ve listened to Andre Agassi on three different talk shows. They have all overlapped (of course), but all three were worth listening to. If you’ve got the time (I listen on a lunch-time walk), here are the links:

I haven’t seen a lot of movies with Christopher Walken, but you gotta love the way he talks. This Saturday Night Live skit is very funny!

  • New mothers prefer hotels to hospitals

Posted on February 24th, 2009 Graham No comments

    From Hotels Magazine:

Expectant mothers in Ireland are making the recession work for them by booking special deals in luxury hotels for their post-natal care, in preference to expensive stays in private maternity hospitals.

A growing number of pregnant women are avoiding the large bills associated with consultant-led private treatment by opting for free, communitybased midwifery services. Some are then using the savings to book into hotel suites within hours of giving birth, getting top-level after-care for far less than a stay in a private hospital due to the special deals on offer in the hospitality industry.

There are 365 days till your next birthday
